Description
Vintage: 2018
Wine type: Italian Riesling
Sugar level: dry
Alcohol level: 14% vol
Location: Veliki Vrh, vineyard location Cikušak, which faces the south and southwest side above the river Drava. The average altitude is 300m above sea level, the average vineyard incline is 60%. The parent material of the soil is marlstone. Because of the natural factors, the wine achieves greater fullness and greater minerality.
Average grapevine age: 45 years
Vinification: 48-hour cold maceration, cold pressing. The wine had a spontaneous fermentation, after which it matured on fine lees until March. Next, the wine was decanted into a 1200 L wooden barrel, where it matured for two years until it was bottled.
Preparation: Carefully supervised the selection of grapes on the grapevines and of the course of ripening. Sugar and acid parameters in the grape berry are measured weekly so that the grapes are what makes the wine. Hand-picking of ripe berries takes place at the end of September, when the berries are orange-yellow, but still enriched with higher acids, which gives the wine a stronger backbone and aroma.
Wine characteristics: Our Italian Riesling, produced from carefully chosen grape berries, has a mineral taste and smells of dried chamomile and linden tree blossoms. The acids are ripe and nicely composed into the backbone of the wine.
Acclaim: Specialties of Slovene farms – Gold Medal, 2021.
